NEW(?) SEASON BEGINS
The Griffith Observatory Championship in June, normally the unofficial start of the MGM Tour’s second half, will feel more like the start of a new season this year. As a consequence of the failure by the Players Committee to organize their tournament in April, the Tour suffered a 3-month break in action, equaling the Tour’s offseason. Travois Gordón’s 2-tournament winning streak, highlighted by his first victory in a Major, now seems like a faded memory. The same could be said about the 2014 season to this point. Therefore a refresher seems in order.
Manhattan Beach Championship: Doug Vargas (back-to-back wins and 3rd title in 4 years)
Charly Invitational: John Frost (his first Charly win came after a sudden death playoff against Patrick Bird)
Hooters Team Play Championship: Armen Grigorian/Travois Gordón (Grigorian’s 3rd Hooters win and Gordón’s first)
Match Play Invitational: Travois Gordón (first career win in a Major)
Making The Turn
Sunday, June 22 the field heads to Roosevelt in Griffith Park where Clint Crump defends his title at the Griffith Observatory Championship. Patrick Bird and Clint Crump are set to make their 80th career Tour start, while Gerry Vaughan will make his 70th. 3 days later, on the night of the 25th, 9 golfers will battle for the 4 remaining spots in this year’s Masters (Sunday, July 13th).
