Armen Grigorian responded to the naysayers and critics by winning two tournaments in a row, The Masters and Devil Ball Shootout. His victory last July in the Devil Ball Shootout was his 20th career win. “It’s definitely an accomplishment,” said Grigorian of the milestone. “I think the next one is going to be the [career] slam, but man, that Survivor is my nemesis.” The Devil Ball Shootout saw its first repeat champion since Patrick Bird’s back-to-back wins in 07-08. The tournament also marked Walter Vargas’s 70th career start.
VARGAS STILL #1
2 TOURNAMENTS REMAIN
Doug Vargas remains the Tour’s #1 ranked golfer for the 5th straight month, but with 2 tournaments remaining and Chris Moawad’s deficit down to single digits, the pressure on Vargas to win his first Player of the Year award is sure to mount. In 2011 he held the top spot for 5 months before surrendering his lead to his brother Walter who would go on to win finish the year the Tour’s #1 golfer.
Following his successful title defense at the Devil Ball Shootout, Armen Grigorian moved up an additional 3 spots and now sits 3rd in the standings.
Up next for the Tour, The Survivor Challenge.
