RENAISSANCE BIRD
While most of his fellow charter member brethren picked up victories in the Tour’s 10th anniversary season, Patrick Bird was left on the outside looking in. But why share the glory when you can have a season all to yourself? With his 2nd straight victory, Bird’s resurgence has him currently the Tour’s #1 ranked player, making 2012 but a distant memory. Prior to starting the Hooters, he saw it as an opportunity for his own ‘anniversary’ win. “I had a rough year last year. [I] didn’t pull anything out during the 10th anniversary of the Tour, so I’m looking at this and I’m thinking alright, well this is the 10th anniversary of this tournament. It’s a good opportunity for me to make my 10th anniversary mark by doing something here.”
John Frost’s 6th career win places him in a 3-way tie (Vaughan, Witt) for 7th on the Tour’s all-time wins list. Patrick Bird, who won 2 tournaments in a row for the first time in his career, is now tied for 5th with fellow charter member Clint Crump on the all-time wins list.
Next up for the Tour, the MGM Tour Match Play Invitational (April 6-7). Like the Hooters Team Play Championship, this tournament will be marking its 10th edition.
