2024 SEASON IN REVIEW

The MGM Tour wrapped up its 22nd season and saw Tim Joe as the last remaining charter member (from 8) to tee it up. 5 of the 7 tournaments saw the lowest turnouts in their respective histories. Walter Vargas became the 4th golfer to join the 20-win club.  Tim Joe joined Chris Moawad (2008, 2019) as the only golfers to post a 4-win season, and he became the 3rd golfer (Chris Moawad, twice; Patrick Bird) to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards. Walter Vargas, Doug Vargas, and Gerry Vaughan reached 120 career starts; Chris Moawad, 140; P-Jay Fidler, 85; Eric Stolz, 60; and Tim Joe 150.

PREVIEW

The MGM Tour embarks on a new season this Sunday.  A nearly 3 month delayed start, the cancellation of the 2023 Tournament of Champions, and a continuing decline in Tour membership has the Tour’s 22nd season starting a bit on the glum side.

Last Man Standing
Tim Joe is now the last remaining charter member (from 8) on the MGM Tour.  Martin Witt’s temporary leave (we’re saying temporary and we’re sticking with that!) and Patrick Bird’s medical leave make up the latest of the “O.G.” departures.

The Good Ol Days
Healthy Tour membership allowed for a fantastic reward for winning Player of the Year honors: the following season’s green fees paid for.  Chris Moawad enjoyed that benefit 6 times to the tune of nearly $2,000! 2022 winner Walter Vargas will, for now, be the last to reap that reward.  With a reduced purse, 2023 Player of the Year Tim Joe (how ironic is that) will earn a fraction of the usual payout.

Vargas Bros.
Walter Vargas will join the 20-win club with his next victory.  After Tim Joe’s aberration season winning Player of the Year, the spotlight burns even brighter on Doug Vargas, considered the best golfer on Tour never to have won Player of the Year.
