2022 SEASON IN REVIEW

The 20th season of the MGM Tour opened with charter member Tim Joe – fittingly(?) – winning the season’s first tournament. Another charter member, Clint Crump, bid farewell to the Tour and the Vargas brothers swept the final 4 tournaments of the season, culminated by Walter Vargas’s win at the Tour Championship and subsequent crowning as Player of the Year.

Tim Joe won the season opener for the 20th season; he did the same for the 10th season.

Eric Stolz made a surprise appearance in the Finals after completing a stunning comeback against Walter Vargas in the semi-finals.

Doug Vargas ended a 14-tournament winless streak after winning Devil Ball for the 3rd time.

Doug Vargas carded a career best round at Roosevelt, winning his 2nd Astronomer’s Monument trophy.

Walter Vargas ended his 2022 season with his 3rd victory, and pulled the “double”, winning 2 majors in a season.

WALTER VARGAS WINS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The highly anticipated showdown between #1 Chris Moawad and #2 Walter Vargas to determine Player of the Year never materialized after the shocking news on the eve of the Tour Championship that Moawad had tested positive for Covid.  It was a scenario neither golfer preferred but Walter Vargas’s win in the Tour Championship – his 3rd victory of the season – dispelled any ambiguity of the rightful winner of 2022 Player of the Year.
