20220813_12434314: The Griffith Observatory Championship returned for its 14th edition after a 2-year Covid-induced hiatus… Personal best: Vargas’s 41 established a new career-best round at Roosevelt. His previous best score (42) resulted in a win in 2017 and a runner-up finish in 2008 (he lost in a sudden death playoff)… Welcome to the club: Saturday’s victory – the 20th of his career – makes him just the 3rd golfer with 20 or more victories. He also became the Griffith’s 4th multi-winner… On a roll: After missing the first 3 tournaments of the season, Doug Vargas has won twice in 4 starts (2nd win in his last 3 starts); he’s won the Griffith twice now in the last 4 editions; it’s his first multi-win season since 2017… “I’m melting…”: With temps in the 90’s Walter Vargas summed up the conditions best… Game effort: Eric Stolz tried to give it a go after suffering a couple of broken toes a little over a month ago. Unfortunately he was forced to withdraw after 3 holes… A DECADE for Pete’s sake! 2-time champion Walter Vargas tee’d off at Roosevelt for the first time in 10 years! Granted there was that retirement business, but Eric Stolz went 2 better than Vargas having made his first Griffith start in 12 years! … Bloodlines: The Tour’s last 3 winners this season are named Vargas… Milestones: Chris Moawad made the 130th start of his career, Doug Vargas his 110th… Tweet-tweet: No birdies, $6 rolls over to The Players Championship.
