Once considered his ultimate season, Chris Moawad’s 2008 season has now been dwarfed by 2019:

  • Won 4 of his 6 starts this season (winning 3 in a row to end the season); finished top 3 in 2 other tournaments he played.
  • Wrapped up Player of the Year before the season was finished, even while having missed a tournament.
  • Won a record-extending 6th Player of the Year award, 5th time in the last 8 years, becoming a back-to-back winner for the 2nd time in his career.
  • 171 points ahead of 2nd place Doug Vargas was the largest winning margin in the past 7 years.
  • Tied and then surpassed the Tour’s all-time wins leader Armen Grigorian.
  • 5 years since a golfer last won 2 majors in the same season, pulled the “double” for the 3rd time in his career (2006 and 2008) after successfully defending his Match Play title and winning a record-extending 5th Tour Championship.
  • Reached double digits (10) in major victories, most on Tour.
  • Won Devil Ball for the 2nd year in a row (a record-extending 4th time), becoming just the 2nd golfer to successfully defend in the past 10 years.
  • Completed the “career slam” after winning the Griffith Observatory Championship (becoming just the 2nd golfer to card a sub-40 round in tournament history)

Despite a seemingly interminable list of accolades and achievements, the complete story of Chris Moawad’s 2019 season has yet to be written.  With the Tournament of Champions in December, he has the opportunity to make Tour history (as if he hasn’t been tired of doing so) and become the only golfer ever to win 5 times in a season.

“Let’s stop using the abbreviation MGM and just spell it out.
It’s the Master of Golf: Moawad Grand Tour.”
-John Mann
