• LAST YEAR: Sporting Crocs (he forgot his golf shoes) Martin Witt stunned the field, and himself, defeating a formidable lineup in Chris Moawad, Doug Vargas, and Nik Freitas to capture his first Devil Ball trophy.

• STORYLINES: Both Chris Moawad and John Frost have at least 1 win on Tour the past 4 years, but none so far this season. Gerry Vaughan has the 3rd longest winless streak (36) on Tour, his last win coming in 2011 (Charly Classic).

• APPROACH SHOTS: This year marks the 10th edition of the tournament. The Tour returns to Altadena for the first time since 2009. The course may provide former 2-time champion Patrick Bird some warm memories as his back-to-back victories in 2007 and 2008 came at Altadena… Clint Crump will have no problem finding the course. In 2012, with the tournament at Eaton Canyon, Crump mistakenly went to Altadena. Said Walter Vargas at the time: “No one’s stupid enough to do that.” Walter Vargas will be making his 85th career start, Clint Crump and John Frost, their 95th.

• RULES REFRESHER: No handicaps and no caps on any hole, Devil Ball portion or Championship round. Lost devil ball is an additional 2-stroke penalty (ie. a total of 4 penalty strokes: 2 for lost ball plus an extra 2). Tie break rules: #1, lost devil balls(s) #2, total devil ball score #3, last hole.
