2014 Player of the Year Standings

Gordón Seeking Top Honors

Current MGM Tour #1 Travois Gordón hopes to cap off what has been a dream season with his first Player of the Year award. But there’s more at play for the 10-year veteran at the Tour Championship this Sunday.

A win would give the 10-year veteran an unprecedented season sweep of the 3 Majors, tie the Tour record (4) for most wins in a single season, and make him just the 2nd Tour champion to win Player of the Year in the same season. Of course, 2 of his fellow competitors hope to spoil the party and take Player of the Year honors for themselves.

John Frost

Coming up painfully short once again at the Survivor – runner up for the 3rd time in the last 4 years – Frost finds himself down 148 points to Gordón instead of 19 that a victory would have placed him. Nevertheless he kept himself in the race. A win at the Tour Championship and Frost will win Player of the Year for the first time in his career.

Chris Moawad

Moawad’s win at the Survivor put him back in the conversation for Player of the Year. The reigning Tour Champion has a flair for the dramatic in the season’s final Major (just ask Doug Vargas). A win Sunday, paired with a Gordón 3rd place finish, will give Moawad his 3rd Player of the Year award in a row and 4th of his career.

QUICK CHIPS: Chris Moawad’s victory at the Survivor was his 2nd win in a row this season, making it the first 2-tournament winning streak of his career. He is the 6th Tour player to register such a streak, joining Armen Grigorian, Clint Crump, Patrick Bird, Doug Vargas, and Travois Gordón. A 3rd win in a row would match the Tour record held by Armen Grigorian. Moawad’s 2 wins this season marked the 5th multi-win season of his career… Milestones: Sunday will mark the 80th career start for John Frost, 75th for Doug Vargas, and 60th for John Mann… No title defense: Walter Vargas, out for Sunday’s tournament, will finish the year without a victory and thus a spot in this year’s Tournament of Champions where he would have entered as defending champion.
