VAUGHAN, FROST SHINE AT NIGHT
Gordón, Crump Also Make The Cut
MONTEREY PARK – A year after missing the cut for just the 2nd time in his career, Gerry Vaughan won last night’s Masters Qualifier. The typically nonchalant veteran was unaffected after shooting 38, a 13-stroke improvement from last year’s career worst 51. “Come on. You always ask me those kinds of questions and you know I have no reaction,” answered Vaughan when asked about his redeeming performance. “It could have just as easily turned out that I shot a 51 tonight.”
Will They Or Won’t They
John Frost qualified for the 6th time in 9 attempts, and for the 2nd year in a row, turned in the lowest score (he lost a tie-break with Vaughan for top honors). Frost played the Qualifier despite the fact he will – presumably – not be able to attend Sunday’s Masters tournament. Clint Crump is scheduled for a surgical procedure that may prevent him from attending as well. If so, it would be the 2nd straight year he has qualified but not played.
