CRUMP WINS GRIFFTHS
Visit From Dad Pays Dividends
ROOSEVELT, GRIFFITH PARK – Clint Crump had a game plan for this year’s Griffith Observatory Championship, which included keeping his driver in his golf bag. “I’m not going to do that today,” said Crump of his driver. “I’m going to play with a rescue club. With a big handicap, [I’ll] play it safe, maybe break 50 [for the first time] and not lose a ball.” Sunday, Crump picked up his first win in over 2½ years, carding a career best 49 to take home his first Astronomers Monument trophy. “It feels really good because this has always been a course that’s been an Achilles heel.” Driver or no driver Crump’s game still needed improving if he was to execute his strategy, and some time spent with his Dad did the trick. “He kinda told me I was doing everything wrong. Went to the range and kind of got everything fixed.” Asked then, if the win was dedicated to his father, Crump answered with an affirmative “Yes.”
