Gordón Set To Defend
Unlike last year Travois Gordón won’t be entering the 2013 Griffith Observatory Championship under the radar. Peeved at what he considered a snub from the media – he wasn’t counted among the favorites despite winning in 2010 – Gordón promptly won his 2nd title on the Roosevelt course in 3 years. He’ll definitely be counted among the favorites this year, the likes of which include 2009 champion P-Jay Fidler and 2012 Player of the Year Chris Moawad.
Notables
The only other 2-time winner of the Griffith Observatory Championship, Walter Vargas, is a late withdrawal. His absence removes one potential obstacle to Gordón’s chances of a successful title defense.
2012 Player Of The Year Chris Moawad counts the Griffith Observatory Championship among his 3 remaining tournament wins needed to complete the career slam.
Former Griffith champion, and the Tour’s all-time career wins leader Armen Grigorian, faces some dubious prospects heading into Sunday. His streak of 9 straight years with at least 1 win may be in danger considering the fact he has just 1 regular season victory past the month of May in the last 7 years.
